Susana Uriarte

Teacher

I am a compassionate and dedicated educator with a strong background in behavioral health, special needs support, and deaf education services. As someone who is hard of hearing myself, I have a personal understanding of the importance of communication accessibility, advocacy, and creating supportive learning environments where every student feels seen, understood, and empowered. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Arizona State University and have several years of experience supporting children, adolescents, and adults with diverse learning and behavioral needs.

Throughout my career, I have worked extensively with individuals with developmental disabilities, behavioral challenges, and communication differences through roles in ABA therapy, direct support services, caregiving, and behavioral health case management. My experience includes implementing individualized support plans, promoting positive behavior strategies, fostering independence, and creating safe, encouraging environments where students can thrive academically and emotionally.

Being fluent in both Spanish and Sign Language has further strengthened my passion for working within deaf and hard of hearing education. I value building meaningful relationships with students and families while helping create inclusive classrooms that encourage confidence, independence, and growth. My approach focuses on patience, collaboration, and individualized support to help every learner succeed both socially and academically.

I am committed to creating positive and inclusive educational experiences that celebrate each student’s unique strengths, abilities, and potential.
