Jennifer “JJ” Reid

Principal

Dr. Jennifer Reid is a passionate and experienced educational leader with over 23 years of service in Deaf education and student support. Her career has spanned a variety of roles—from classroom teacher to administrator to school counselor—each rooted in a deep commitment to student advocacy, equity, and holistic development.

Most recently, Dr. Reid served as a School Counselor for students with emotional disabilities at Gilbert Public Schools, where she provided both direct and indirect support services. She advocated for equitable access to education while addressing her students’ academic and social-emotional needs through counseling, collaboration with staff and families, and by fostering a safe, inclusive, and positive school climate.

Previously, she held positions as Interim Principal, Assistant Principal, and Student Services Coordinator at Sequoia Deaf School in Mesa, Arizona. In these roles, she led curriculum and program development, oversaw state testing, special education transitions, English language instruction, and provided coaching and professional development to staff. Fluent in American Sign Language, she worked to create a bilingual-bicultural environment where Deaf and Hard of Hearing students could thrive.

Dr. Reid has taught as an Adjunct Instructor at Arizona State University, delivering graduate-level coursework in classroom behavior management. She was widely respected for her collaborative leadership style, proactive problem-solving, and dedication to relationship-building with students, families, staff, and the broader community.

She earned her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Argosy University, a Master of Arts in School Counseling from Gallaudet University, and a Bachelor of Science in Special Education – Deaf/Hard of Hearing from Kent State University where she played college softball. She also completed the Arizona Educational Foundation Principal’s Leadership Academy and held multiple professional certifications in education and counseling.

Throughout her career, Dr. Reid has remained a steadfast advocate for students, especially those from marginalized communities, ensuring they had the tools, support, and confidence to reach their full potential.

Dr. Reid and her husband, Brian, have two children, Jackson (20) and Brennan (18).
